As a general rule, any time our dogs are topside, they are supposed to be wearing their life jackets. This practice reassures us that they will be safe even when they aren’t directly in our sight, but it means that they spend a great deal of their day with their jackets on.
It’s important that their life jackets not only keep them safe, but comfortable too. We have tried a few different brands over the years, but the one we have settled on is the highly rated Outward Hound brand. The others we tried, while slightly more budget conscious, didn’t have the quality of materials and construction as the Outward Hound brand and were considerably more bulk, which got in the way when they tried to lay down and bask in the sun. They would be more suitable for dogs who went on short boat rides or dock walks and didn’t spend the full day in their jacket.
